PE at St Bega’s School aims to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing in our children, now and for their future. We believe Physical fitness is an important part of leading a healthier lifestyle. It teaches self-discipline and that to be successful you must work hard, show resilience and have determination to believe that anything can be achieved.
Teaching and Learning opportunities will inspire all children to improve their skills and apply them in individual and team games situations. We want to ensure children can co-operate and collaborate with others as part of a team, understanding fairness and competitiveness of play, that embed life-long values.
Pupils at St Bega’s participate in weekly, high quality PE and sporting activities. Our PE programme incorporates a variety of activities, in particular athletics, games, dance, gymnastics and swimming for lower KS2 to ensure all children develop confidence, tolerance and appreciation of their own and other’s strengths and weaknesses. Regular opportunities to practice core and key skills in each aspect of our PE curriculum, helps to build on our children’s fundamental movements and to build resilience and pride in their achievements. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also children’s wellbeing. We provide opportunities for children to engage in extra-curricular activities after school, both intra and inter competitive sporting events. We also provide daily opportunities to take part in the ‘Daily Mile’ which encourages exercise on a daily basis.
Pupils will leave St Bega’s with knowledge and understanding of the importance of physical fitness in leading a healthy lifestyle as well as supporting positive mental and emotional wellbeing. Children will be able to co-operate with one another and collaborate well as part of a team.
